The Tucson Roadrunners returned home after a lengthy road trip to take on the Bakersfield Condors and San Antonio Rampage, going 2-1-1-0 and earning their 28th and 29th wins of the season. Tucson has already matched their win total from last season (29) with 19 games remaining.
After falling behind 2-0 early Saturday night against the Condors, Tucson evened things up before the end of the first with goals from Lane Pederson and John Ramage. Tyler Gaudet gave the Roadrunners a 3-2 lead with his 11th goal of the season four minutes into the second. Later in the third, Mike Sislo added to Tucson’s lead, making it 4-1. Bakersfield couldn’t quite mount a comeback and with an empty net goal from Dylan Strome, the Roadrunners kicked off their home stand with a 5-4 victory.
The Roadrunners once again fell behind early on to the Condors Monday afternoon. Trailing 3-0 in the third, Dylan Strome got Tucson on the board with his 20th goal of the season. With a little under six minutes left, they struck again as Tye McGinn pulled the Roadrunners within one. In spite of their late push, Tucson couldn’t complete the comeback, falling 3-2 in regulation.
Friday brought a shift in focus as they kicked off a two-game set against the San Antonio Rampage. Lane Pederson gave the Roadrunners a 1-0 in the first which held until midway through the second when the Rampage evened things up at 1-1. After a scoreless third, things headed to overtime where Mike Sislo won it for the Roadrunners.
Despite outshooting the Rampage 44-11, Tucson couldn’t find the back of the net and fell in overtime 1-0. San Antonio’s 11 shots were the fewest recorded by an AHL team this season and goaltender Ville Husso’s 44 saves were the second-most recorded by an AHL goalie in a shutout this year.
